Jocelyn Mackenzie is a Brooklyn-based musician, maker, and medium. She released her debut solo album PUSH on Righteous Babe Records in early 2021. Arranged entirely for string quartet, PUSH was co-created by an all-star team of collaborators including Franz Nicolay (The Hold Steady, World Inferno Friendship Society), Adam Schatz (Landlady, Sylvan Esso), Jo Lampert (Orange is the New Black, David Byrne’s Joan of Arc), Emily Hope Price (Pearl and the Beard, Kishi Bashi), Patrick Breiner (Dirty Projectors) and more.
The PUSH catalog continued with remixes by Hit & Hope (featuring Chris “Woody” Wood of Bastille), Jenny Owen Youngs, John Mark Nelson, and Charlie Hunter. In 2023 followed her EP WAKE, EP WAKE, featuring rising star jazz saxophonist Alison Shearer, for which she directed and edited two music videos, all proudly released on Righteous Babe Records.
Jocelyn’s first solo EP “Unlovely” features a song co-written by Ani DiFranco. Her and her band’s music has been commissioned and synced for film, commercials, and television, including syncs in Hannah Gadsby’s Netflix show Douglas, and the film Hello, My Name is Doris directed by Michael Showalter, starring Sally Field. She has also written for theater in projects funded by the Jim Henson Foundation and appearing at the Park Avenue Armory.
Jocelyn is proud to be a touring member of The Righteous Babes supergroup, comprised of artists from the legacy label including Gracie and Rachel and Holly Miranda. The group has opened for Ani DiFranco on two opening tours in 2022, and will return to the road in summer of 2023. The Babes will release their first single, a cover of The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s classic song Maps, in summer 2023.
With a shape-shifting sound that is at once personal and universal, Mackenzie creates intimate pop songs for a generation of seekers. At her core, Mackenzie's extra-sensory skills inform her songwriting and visual art, integrating media and meaning to create work that is both sensual and personal.
